Koh Lipe is located 60 kilometres from mainland Thailand to Central Thailand, the nearest pier is in Pak Bara. This island is located in the southernmost of Thailand. Even on a beautiful day, you can see the island of Langkawi of Malaysia just 30 kilometres away from here. Koh Lipe is a part of Adang island – a cluster of 10 uninhabited islands. The day tours around these islands are very popular.

If you’re planning your trip at beaches in Thailand,  Koh Lipe will be a good choice because it’s the best way to explore the amazing night life under the ocean. The archipelago is a part of the Tarutao National Marine Park. It is an enormous park consisting of about 50 islands and over 1,500 km², a nature reserve established in 1974 and considered Thailand’s second national park. Tourism in Koh Lipe has caused water shortages, waste disposal issues and other environmental problems.

Best time to visit Koh Lipe

Weekends are the peak time at Koh Lipe because Malaysian and Thai tourists often come here to relax after the hard work. If you want to visit Koh Lipe at the weekend, you should book the accommodation and means of transportation in advance. The peak season is often from November to the beginning of May, especially from the mid of December to the end of February. At that time, most of rooms and travel tickets are booked. It will be an inconvenient experience if you come here at that time without booking in advance.

The low season lasts from May to November. There are much fewer tourists coming here in this time. It’s not difficult for you to find a peaceful place to relax on the beach. Although this island receives visitors all year round with two boats operating from Pak Bara and vice versa every day, some hotels and business still close. Anyway, it’s a wonderful time for those who want to enjoy the tranquillity of beaches and receive special offers from the hotels.

What to see in Koh Lipe

The long white beaches at Koh Lipe bring you the feeling like you are in the paradise. It’s an ideally great place to refresh your mind after hard working days. Moreover, you have the opportunity to take part in diving tours and explore the diverse and abundant marine life.

There are three main beaches and some small ones at Koh Lipe, including some private beaches.

Pattaya beach

Koh Lipe’s main beach is a large bay with soft sand and clear water that can dive from the beach. In the past, many hotels and guest houses have served tourists visiting beaches in Pattaya. However, in the past few years, tourism businesses have expanded the scale and built more luxury resorts.

There are dozens of bars and restaurants on the beach or at street corners on Walking Street. In the high season, these restaurants and bars are extremely busy, but the beaches are only about a 15-minute walk away, so you can easily get out of the crowd and find quiet yourself.

Sunrise Beach ( Hat Chao Ley)

Sunrise beach stretches along the entire eastern part of Koh Lipe. On clear cloudy days, from here you can see Koh Tarutao Island and Langkawi of Malaysia. It will be an unforgettable experience when taking part in diving activities around Koh Kra and Koh Usen – two small islands located on the right of Sunrise beach.

The north coast facing Koh Adang has seasonally floating sandbanks. In the low seasons, it faces Koh Tarutao, but in the high season, the change of wind and water causes it to rise in the opposite direction. It is a very beautiful and interesting place.

During low season, Sunrise Beach does not subject to monsoon weather and usually has a pleasant breeze for most of the peak season. The people are concentrated here and schools, hospitals and Chao Ley village are also located here.

Pattaya beach offers more accommodation for tourists and there are some budget hotels there. In recent years, luxury resorts have been opened to meet the demand of the tourists who want to enjoy luxurious services. At the head of Walking Street, there are some restaurants and small shops.
